What it means
An AI agent is an LLM-based system given tools, memory, and the ability to take actions in the world: browse the web, call APIs, execute payments. Shopping agents receive goals from users and execute multi-step plans to fulfill them. OpenAI's Operator, Anthropic's Claude agentic tools, and Google's Project Astra represent early instances. As agents become standard features of AI assistants, they will become a significant transaction channel for Shopify merchants.
