Model Knowledge Cutoff

The date beyond which an LLM's training data does not extend — meaning products published after that date only exist in live retrieval, not model memory.

What it means

Every LLM is trained on data up to a specific date. Content published after the cutoff is unknown to the model unless retrieved live via RAG. For new Shopify stores or recently launched products, this means AI platforms will only surface them if those platforms perform live web crawling. Established stores with long-indexed content benefit from both training memory and live retrieval.

Why it matters for Shopify

Shopify merchants with newer stores should prioritize AI crawlability and live retrieval optimization rather than waiting for training data to include their brand.
